Plant Native!

Planting native plants to wherever you live is SO important. It gives food and homes to the wildlife that is native to wherever you live. When you only plant non native plants you are hardly giving food source and homes to the native wildlife.

It’s really amazing how we even benefit from native plants. The health benefits from purple coneflower, goldenrod, plantain, etc. is amazing and why god made things full circle!

I say a general good ratio of native to non-native plants is 70% native & 30% non-native.. but you can change that to whatever fits your lifestyle best, but usually more native plants than non-native!

What is so amazing about native perennial plants is they establish extremely well because well… they’re native! But seriously its a great option to go with planting native because each year they will get bigger, prettier, and more blooms! They almost never need watered once they’re established depending on the plant and how much rain fall you get throughout the season and the plant itself.

But what if I don’t have the yard space? Joining community gardens or reaching out to your local parks&recs director is a great opportunity to make a local difference and build community!! If you don’t have a local community garden figure out how to start one!

Education is the most powerful thing! Don’t know what’s native to where you live? Do research or get a book on natives to your region! Ive done a couple backyard habitat presentations for libraries which is another great way to learn!

Plant native and see how many more bees, butterflies, and so many different species start coming to your yard. It’s such a gift :)
